Report: Mitt Romney has begun his vice presidential selection process

Via Ben Smith, Stephen Moore reports Mitt Romney advisers are already talking about who their guy will pick as his running mate:

My contacts in the Mitt Romney camp are boasting: "Doesn't a Romney-Rubio ticket sound great?"

One senior Romney advisor told me: "We think that could be a dream ticket."

Gee, I thought you had to actually win the nomination before picking your running mate. And it's hard to win the nomination before the first votes are cast. Just ask Rudy Giuliani or Hillary Clinton.

Another factor Mitt's minions ought to consider: Even if their candidate gets the nomination, Marco Rubio is clearly an up-and-coming star in the GOP. He's got his own ambitions, and perhaps being the #2 guy on Mitt Romney's losing presidential campaign isn't one of them.
