How rural airports are being held hostage to Republican anti-union fervor

Rachel Maddow takes a closer look at how House Republicans, led by Rep. John Mica, are threatening rural airports in their attempt to dramatically curtail union rights for airline workers.

Maddow boils down the union part of the equation by saying:
Republicans want to make it harder for people who work for airlines and railways to join unions. Republicans want to strip those union rights and Democrats don't want to strip those union rights.

That's absolutely accurate. But just so you know the how of the stripping of union rights, here it is: if you're eligible to vote in a union representation election, and you don't vote, you are counted as a no vote.

In the 2008 elections, voter turnout was around 62 percent of the eligible population. How many members of Congress would have been elected under the rules House Republicans are pushing for union representation?
